Gloria Steinem, writing a tongue-in-cheek article on the "Ins and Outs of Pop Culture" for Life magazine on August 20th 1965, explains, "Pop Art itself may mean little to the average man, but its vocabulary - comic strips, Campbell's soup cans, Marilyn Monroe - is always familiar" (p. 73). An illustration at end of the article, which emphasizes "the fun" aspect of Pop Art, reproduces this poster with Steinem's head superimposed on top of Flash Gordon's.
